Drug smuggling from Afghanistan into Tajikistan is on the increase. In the past week, Russian border guards in Tajikistan seized 770 pounds of drugs and killed seven smugglers. So far this year, 700 smugglers have been arrested. About two-thirds of the heroin reaching Europe can be traced (via chemical analysis) to Afghanistan.
