Fort Benning has disbanded the Silver Wings, the post's prestigious precision parachute team. The unit has performed at air shows, events around the world, and post celebrations since 1965, but the cost ("hundreds of thousands of dollars each year") is now too much for Fort Benning to afford. The 12 members of the team included personnel from the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. "It really comes down to watching our pennies" said a spokesman for Fort Benning.--Stephen V Cole
